WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

Our Mission – For God’s glory in this generation

Our Calling – We the Agapé Mission Church are called to be a worshipping body of believers who desire to conform to the image of Jesus Christ as we respond to his unfailing love. As we are being transformed by the Word of God, and as the Holy Spirit empowers all to minister, we seek to build discipleship relationships and practice the unconditional love of God. We are called and committed to share the Good News to all.

Our Worship Celebration – In His presence, we greet one another. God calls us to worship and we obey. We worship Him with songs, psalms, and prayer. In Jesus Christ, we receive God’s grace and mercy as we confess our sins. God’s faithfulness and sovereignty cause us to give thanks. In the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, we welcome newcomers, into fellowship. In Response to His grace and blessing, we offer our lives and finances and hear church concerns. God’s word is proclaimed, and we receive in joy, obedience, gratitude and commitment. As the Holy Spirit empowers and guides, we minister and bless one another. We live out our calling to worship God moment by moment in all our activities.

Our Receiving and Sharing God’s Love – We grow together in Christ, from Dive In Groups: Meeting Jesus in relational settings; Set Free Conferences: A weekend of experiencing the Holy Spirit); Teaching sessions on living the abundant life; and Sessions on receiving the call to live a radical lifestyle of love.

Our Ministry and Fellowship – After meeting Jesus and experiencing his love through Dive In groups, SET Free Conference, we continue our Christian growth in small groups and fellowship ministries. We refine our calling, character and ministry effectiveness in our Father’s grace and love.  We serve the body of Christ through various activities and also proclaim the Good news to our friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Our Study of the Word and Prayer – We love to study the Word of God through messages, conferences and occasional graduate level courses. We also love to pray. There are many opportunities to do so, including morning prayers, all-night prayers, and other scheduled and unscheduled prayer meetings.

Our Church Planting and Missions – Our ultimate task of evangelism is carried out in the planting churches for our generation in this culture and in other cultures. To this end, we commit ourselves to be trained in teams to be sent out.

Our Story in His Story

Our Story in His Story

Agapé Mission Church is called to glorify God in this generation.

Our history began in 1985 when we started a campus ministry at the University of Maryland, College Park. This was the precursor to our current college ministries, which now affect the lives of the students in ten different colleges and universities.

In spring of 1994, the servant leaders of the ministry sensed God's call to gather as a church. After much prayer to seek God's will, we started to meet in a lecture hall at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County campus in August 1994.

With an increased awareness of God's call to minister to our communities, we relocated our corporate worship place to Columbia, Maryland in 1996. In summer of 2002, we moved to our current building, the Agapé Ministry Center in Elkridge, Maryland (located between Baltimore and Washington D.C.).

We have fellowship and ministry groups in Columbia, Baltimore and Washington D.C. for singles, couples and families with children and youths. We also minister to college students in many universities and colleges in the Washington-Baltimore metro area.

Over the years our commitment to minister to this generation led to the planting of Agapé Life Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Agapé Harvest Church in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, Ecclesia Paris in Paris, France, and most recently, Ecclesia NYC in Manhattan/New York City.

We are an independent church, evangelical in our theological stance with openness to the Holy Spirit’s leading. We come together to passionately worship God with all those who are followers of Christ. It is our calling and desire to live and proclaim the Word of God.

What We Believe

We believe in one God, Creator of all things who loves us and exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, is true God and true man who died on the cross for our sins.  He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven. He is at the right hand of the Majesty on High as he intercedes for us.

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired Word of God, without error in its original writings, which reveals to us his will for our salvation. The Bible is the final authority for all Christian faith and life.

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to convict and regenerate us. The Holy Spirit also indwells, guides, instructs, fills and empowers the believer for godly living, mission and service to one another in love.

We believe that people are born in sin and cannot see the kingdom of God except through the new birth. Justification before the holy God is by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe in the true Church composed of people united together in the body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the head. Its calling is to worship God and to witness Jesus Christ by preaching the Gospel and by demonstrating righteousness, justice and love on behalf of all people.

We believe that Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return in glory to raise the dead and bring salvation and judgment to completion. God will fully manifest His Kingdom when He establishes a new heaven and a new earth.
